Question about the 100mm output flange swap into 01E gearbox:
I have brand new flanges and seals and installed 1 side into the 01E and stopped....they sit about 5-6mm further out from the gearbox than do the 108mm which sit nice and flush against the box and thus into the seal. Is this to be expected or do I need to have them machined down to match the 108mm flange length?
Thanks

first off what are your flanges from?? i used two right side rear flanges from a 90 diff. details are a bit fuzzy but i remember the bolts being an issue, one set of bolts were conical style while the other were flat. i remember we (hank) had to machine the flanges so they had a flat surface to sit on. infact looking back at pictures it looks like they might have been machined down after all: Cone: Machined for flat bolt: Ahh yes, here is a picture, showing the different lengths of them, this is something that i don't remember being documented in the swap thread... the clean oil one on the right is the 01e, the other is the diff flange.

I have gone back and forth with flanges using 016 5Kq ones, did not need to do any machining, just need to make shore correct bolts need to be used

Thanks I do not have pn s, but now im thinking my statement above is wrong, you can use 016 4k flanges not the 5K ones, I did learn that hard way
