First I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Matt. This is my first Audi. I've had a few Volkswagens now and although they've been a blast, something was left desired... So I made the move to quattro. I found this '88 90 on craigslist. It has a hacked together AAN swap with a 034 GT2871 set up. It looked really clean and has some go fast goodies. For $2000 I couldn't pass it up.

Here are my VW's

'90 G60

'84 GTI AEB 20v swap

'86 Syncro VRT project

And now the 90

Need some going through but I'm really excited. This will be my winter, rallycross and hillclimb car, so stay tune :D

I'm just trying to figure out how that rad actually does anything at that angle with no ducting...

Same thought I had... I'd expect cooling probs without ducting that radiator at the minimum.

Cool project! Needs some love but I see lots of potential...

I agree it couldn't work well. Until I drive it more, I won't know just how poor it is. Most likely get a scoop and ducting or moved after I find/ modify a intake manifold to make more room up front.

Ran new heavier gauge wire to the battery. It was speaker wire... zip tied under the car, to the fuel lines... Oh and resting on the down pipe where it had started to melt :x

Cruised around for a good 30 minutes in the rain today. Water temp reached 200F but stayed around 185F with the fan left on. Car pulls really well and I should have some time this week end to really start going through it.

Went to replace a control arm bushing that was VERY bad... turns out it was made of electrical tape :wtf: Decided my control arms are too rusty and should be replaced at some point.

Removed the melting PVC pipe intake in favor of something less restrictive and that I can build a air box around. Plan to feed the box from the lower grill on the bumper. Also started standing up the radiator. Close to where I want it. It too will get most of its air from the lower bumper.

Wow a virgin wastegate cap.

You'd have to be nuts to put melty PVC infront of a nice turbo like that.

Save this one!

Nice, looks like this car really needed you guys! Little does she know the abuse in her future!

Hopefully we will have the opportunity to slay some subies, maybe even that pesky A4.

I'll need to try the fire method next time I change CA bushings, things are such a bitch.

Made a lower radiator bracket today, not pretty but should work. Way lighter then the old one too. Still want to make one for the top and need to piece together some new hoses.

Oh and turn out I can use my boost piping to take the rest of the car apart when I break down :D

No idea but looks like it could have been.

So coolant temps are much happier when driving (190F), but were still spiking while coming to a stop. Turns out the fan was barely even spinning or pulling any air. I rewired that with a rely and now it works great. It did climb as I let it idle in the driveway after a hard drive home. Need to make ducting now to get more air in there.

I have some oil pooling at the base of the head, hope its not a head gasket. The car did over heat the other day before I got the fan working. Also who really know considering the cooling system really wasn't even amounting to anything before I rearranged things
